Atelier LEK is an independent design studio that specializes in lighting: lighting in public spaces, lighting for the exterior and lighting for the interior of buildings. Our method is characterized in that we think about light at the conceptual level, we make designs in which the perception of space is central. Light is always a part of a greater whole and we find it therefore important to work together with all disciplines and parties. Atelier LEK excels in re-framing complex assignments to an understandable level and finding ingenious, multi-value lighting concepts for people and planet. In her 20 years of experience in lighting design she developed a working process that enables an early participation in multidisciplinary projects in the role of a knowledge-hub between the client, user, contractor and market.

IGOV kenniscafe kwaliteit lichtbeleving in openbare ruimte
In the 'Timmerhuis', designed by Rem Koolhaas, the statue of former Mayer of Rotterdam Andre van der Louw is positioned alongside the main entrance Hall. This artpiece by Herman Lamers is standing in the corridor, looking down on the public square of the building. Atelier LEK designed the dynamic lighting installation for the statue, which is surrounded by a high level of luminance, positioned behind a high reflective window and in itself very low reflectant due to the black color. An interesting challange which we met and realised in spring 2017.
